Water scarcity hits Gwallameji student area


Gwallameji, a student-dominated area in Buachi, is grapple with water scarcity crisis. The situation has left students struggling to access clean water for drinking, cooking, and personal hygiene.

A severe water scarcity crisis has hit the Gwallameji community,bon student both in-campus and off-campus. Since early February, residents and students have been struggling to access clean water, forcing them to go long distances to fetch water for basic necessities.

This water shortage has affected  daily routines and academic activities of students, as students must spend hours queuing for water. The community's reliance on wells, which have dried up, and the lack of bodents have missed lectures, and residents have resorted to using unhygienic water due to the lack of alternatives.

In an interview with   Aisha Mohammed, a students of Public Administration ND2, the water scarcity has been ongoing for several year, with many residents relying on expensive and unreliable water vendors. "We've been buying water from vendors at high prices," said "It's becoming increasingly difficult to afford good drinking and cooking water."

Also,  Diel John, a male  student of Mass communication HND 1b , expressed his frustration with the situation, urging the Government to provide ways by drill more boreholes and install taps to alleviate the crisis. This will would benefit both students and community member of Gwallameji.

Furthermore, Residents of Gwallameji are calling on the government to provide immediate relief and long-term solutions to the water scarcity crisis. "We need access to clean water to stay healthy and focused on our studies," said Mohammed. "We hope the government will take our plight seriously and act quickly to address this crisis in FPTB"
